Mineral Hygenics Starter Kit: Review

Mineral Hygenics

Mineral Hygienics is one of the “natural” mineral makeup lines that I have been waiting to try. I finally caved and bought the starter kit which by the way is such a great way to test a product out and I wish more lines had starter kits at great prices.

The fact that the line is natural concerned me because a lot of companies state that their products are natural but when you look at the ingredients and see what is in them you are astounded by how many of them you don’t even know. I had heard that Mineral Hygienics has four ingredients in the foundation Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxide, and may contain Mica all of which I have heard of many times.

The texture is fine but provides a smooth matte finish which is great for us oil slicks. I didn’t get oily by the end of the day and I sure didn’t think I needed a touch up. I have to say that I am pretty impressed with this line but I can’t say it is my favorite partly because I have yet to find a favorite mineral makeup line.

I do love natural makeup and if I wasn’t so selective with my products I would stick to this line but I am constantly trying new things.

So for $25.99 plus shipping & handling you get the Mini Starter Kit which includes two shades of the Foundation, a full coverage Kabuki brush which I was wasn’t thrilled about but I have several others, and a how to kit.

If you already know that Mineral Hygenics works for you, you can go with the regular kit which is $59.99 plus shipping & handling, and offers more bang for your buck.

I’ve tried a lot of different mineral lines, so I overtime I’ve become fairly educated on the various brands. Mineral Hygienics with out a doubt has the best mineral makeup IMO.

What I liked best about them was how long it lasted. When I put it on in the morning it lasted all day. I could go to the tanning bed over lunch hour, sweat and go back to work and it would continue to look perfect untill i went to bed. I never needed to do any touchups.

I also liked that it only had 4 ingredients. Most of the other companies are adding bismuth oxychloride and other ingredients.

    I highly reccomend M.H.

I’ve been trying mineral make-ups for a year now. Liquid foundations just felt too heavy and my face would be oily by noon (regardless of the brand or what they claimed). What I like about mineral foundations is that they don’t feel so heavy and I’ve had complements on my skin since I started using them (even though I have never had a bad complexion). What I don’t like is that they don’t last as long (ie I have to purchase more frequently) and the brands that really work are more expensive than the liquid foundations I’ve used. It also takes me longer to put on my make-up than it did with liquid foundations. As for the brands I’ve tried, I started with PUR Minerals, moved to Mary Kay, then tried Bare Minerals, and am currently using Mineral Hygenics. So far, I think I like the Mineral Hygenics the best. Here are the pros and cons (for me)… Pros: it lasts all day and my face doesn’t look super shiny by the end of the day. If I’m going out, I usually will apply some more Sheer Perfection Finishing Powder so that I look a little more fresh. Also, it doesn’t leave a “glow” on my face when I apply it. The others did and for someone with an oily t-zone, I didn’t need any help making my face look shiny. Cons: It doesn’t cover quite as well as well as the others, but since I don’t have a lot of skin issues I was fine with this compromise since it lasts longer on my face. Also, I don’t like the packaging. Bare Minerals has the best packaging of any of the ones I have tried, but again its a compromise I’m willing to make. Overall, I would say Mineral Hygenics is worth trying.
